Should This Scores Super Bowl Commercial Have Been Banned By CBS Censors?

Super Bowl 50 is nearly upon us, which — to non-sports junkies — not only means tasty snacks but the most creative tv commercials of the year. So far, we’ve seen tame efforts like Dame Helen Mirren in a Budweiser ad and Steven Tyler as a singing bunch of Skittles. Things got a little saucier with multiple Ryan Reynolds for Hyundai, but overall, things are looking pretty G-rated. Well, other than PETA’s banned “vegans last longer” ad, which was simply an attention ploy like most PETA stunts.

Now there’s a middle-of-the-road effort by NYC’s Scores strip club, which went decidedly PG. However, CBS was not keen to risk anything, according to TMZ, which says the network lives in far of another “nipplegate.” So, we can thank Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson for the abundance of caution over pretty ladies in lingerie. Scores was reportedly ready to shell out $5 million for this ad, but it couldn’t happen. Did Scores do this on purpose? There’s plenty to be gained by pumping out a “banned commercial” on the internet. The publicity still arrives without the payout. The internet sees “hot” women dancing, and Scores only paid to produce the commercial. Everyone wins.

FYI: TMZ says the NFL has banned all ads containing “nude or semi-nude performers” along with all references to gambling, guns, and birth control. In other words, it’s up to Lady Gaga to shake things up on Sunday.
