Cody Rhodes Is Heading To EVOLVE

Cody Rhodes’ first announced opponent for his post-WWE run on the independent circuit is Kurt Angle, but it turns out he’ll be wrestling before that. In fact, he’ll be competing on his first night of freedom, as EVOLVE has announced Rhodes as a competitor on their EVOLVE 66 show on Aug. 19.

Via EVOLVE:

“The big news is that Cody Rhodes is coming to EVOLVE! Cody Rhodes will wrestle in singles competition at EVOLVE 66 on Aug. 19 in Joppa, Maryland, at the MCW Arena. This will be Cody’s first post-WWE match so it will be a very special night in the Baltimore area! In addition, Cody will be available for pictures and autographs. Rhodes has asked to wrestle a top talent. We are working out the details now and will have more info next week. You can purchase tickets here.”

EVOLVE’s working relationship with WWE will cause a lot of conversation and speculation about this announcement — William Regal, Sami Zayn, American Alpha and others have already appeared on EVOLVE events with WWE’s blessing — but ignoring all that, hey, if you’re within driving distance of eastern Maryland you’ve got the first chance to see Cody Rhodes tear it up on the indies. That’s exciting.

Until his opponent has been announced, reference Cody’s post-WWE checklist and try to figure out who it’ll be. Important followup question: When and where is that Dalton Castle match happening?
