Vince McMahon stories are like unicorns, but if unicorns were everywhere and you could see them any time you wanted. Hang on, let me start over.
Vince McMahon stories — whether they be (sadly all too often) apocryphal, or directly from the horse’s mouth — are one of the very best things about professional wrestling fandom. Today, we’re lucky enough to bear witness to an all-new Vince story, courtesy of Sheamus, who recently spoke to The42 while promoting his role in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
“The first time I met [Vince] actually, I went over to shake his hand and I gave him kind of a bit of a lame handshake. And he pulled his hand away, right? And he goes, ‘I said a handshake! Give me a proper handshake!’
“So I was like [looks around] boom! Bring him in with like a real sturdy handshake. He goes, ‘That’s better,’ and just walked off.
“I was like, ‘Oh god, did I just ruin me chances of getting in here with the WWE?’ I didn’t know. But it was just a very intimidating … He’s very intimidating, especially if you don’t know him.”
Thank you for this story, based Sheamus. Now we know that your handshakes suck and very nearly cost you your wrestling career. In fact, you could say that Sheamus’ greeting is … no great shakes. His handshake doesn’t bring any boys to the yard, in other words.
You can check out the entire interview in the video above, which also includes Sheamus’ thoughts on Conor McGregor.
