The UFC’s loss will be the WWE’s gain, if Stephanie McMahon has her way. The Chief Brand Officer of the pro wrestling company has wanted to get Ronda Rousey back in the squared circle ever since Rousey’s appearance at Wrestlemania 31 became one of the biggest moments of the year. And now that Ronda has announced her match at UFC 207 in December will be the beginning of the end of her cage fighting career, McMahon is honing in.
“I gotta get her back,” she said in an interview with TMZ. “I’m certainly gonna try, I’ll just leave it at that.”
The WWE is finally starting to treat women like proper draws, and this weekend held the first women’s cage match which also just happened to be the first WWE PPV ever headlined by a women’s match. According to Stephanie McMahon, this is just the beginning.
“That would be the goal to have women main event WrestleMania at some point in time,” Stephanie said. “Whether that’s five years from now, 10 years from now, I think they’re gonna make it happen.”
Could that WrestleMania main event involve Ronda Rousey?
“God, I certainly hope so!” McMahon replied.
There’s certainly a chance that Ronda could oblige. She’s said in the past that she was interested in winning the Divas wrestling championship after her mixed martial arts career, and she also considers The Rock a role model for how to make it in Hollywood. Based on the reception at WresteMania 31, the pro wrestling fans seem to love her. So if it turns out her acting ain’t good enough for movie theaters, we could definitely see her showing up on WWE PPVs.
