Watch Stephanie McMahon Announce WWE’s First-Ever Women’s Royal Rumble

WWE women have made a whole lot of history over the past couple of years, most recently with the first-ever WWE women’s wrestling match in Abu Dhabi.

In the main event of Monday’s WWE Raw, the Absolution stable of Paige, Sonya Deville, and Mandy Rose took on Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Mickie James. The match itself ended in disqualification when it broke down into an all-out brawl, and the six women were soon joined by the rest of the women’s division, as Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, Asuka, Alicia Fox, and Alexa Bliss also hit the ring and entered the fray.

That’s when Stephanie McMahon’s music hit and she made her way to the ring, where she stopped the violence and talked about all of the accomplishments the women have made since the beginning of the Women’s Revolution. And then she dropped the bombshell.

McMahon finally confirmed the rumors that have been swirling for months, as she officially announced that the women will get to make history once more in the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match.

To end Raw, McMahon confirmed to the live crowd that yes, that definitely merited a “YES!” chant. And the crowd made it so.

In case you were wondering, WWE.com shortly thereafter confirmed that the Smackdown women will be invited to participate in the women’s Royal Rumble match, too, so it will be more participants than the 10 women present in the ring for the announcement on Raw. For their part, both Smackdown and NXT women seem keenly interested in the match.

Fans look forward to the Royal Rumble with breathless anticipation each year, but major kudos to WWE for not only finally making this match official, but for somehow finding a way to make us even MORE desperate for the Rumble to roll around. ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA SEASON Y’ALL.
