Xavier Woods Explained The New Day Would All Leave WWE Before They Break Up

Xavier Woods is a big believer in The New Day and the friendships between the wrestlers that make up one of the most fun (and best) tag teams in the business. That’s why he’s confident that the current and five-time tag champs aren’t going anywhere, even if it seems like long odds given how wrestling works.

Tag teams and factions break up all the time, either because it’s written that way or those involved simply want out. But Woods is out here testing the maxim that all good things have to to come to an end, and he’s got a bold prediction: The New Day will retire long before they break up.

Woods spoke to Give Me Sport recently and was asked if he thought The New Day could buck the seemingly inevitable end of tag teams in wrestling. Woods emphatically stated that they will never turn on each other, explaining why and that this isn’t just some kayfabe answer he’s giving.

“I don’t remember a group in wrestling that hasn’t turned on itself, or they’ll turn, then come back and be a group again,” Woods said. “New Day — I’m telling you this right now — New Day will never turn. Ever. And that’s because we have zero desire to ever do that. I have zero desire to go to work and not work with my friends.”

Woods has heard the rumors of who will be the one to turn and take a shot at a more individual glory, but he said all of that is nonsense. Everyone involved is having fun, and that individual success can come with the help of Big E and Kofi.

“We are having the most fun we’ve ever had in our careers. It’s not like someone’s like, ‘Oh, I need to sabotage my friends to be champ.’ What is it to be champ when you’re a champ by yourself? You’re standing up there alone on this cold mountainous castle? That’s not fun. I’d rather be up there with my friends.”

He also cites “The New Day Rule” and how if someone won a singles title, they would all share it, so it makes more mathematical sense to stay together to win championships.

It’s certainly a good attitude to have, but at its core wrestling is about conflict. Betrayal is a key factor in said conflict, which is why everyone feels pretty safe in assuming the good times will eventually end. That might not happen anytime soon, but it’s still the betting favorite when it comes to a WWE faction. If they don’t, however, it’d be a testament to their friendship and, for most fans, be wonderful because New Day is one of the best things going in WWE.
