Here are your quick and editorial-free results from the opening night of New Japan Pro Wrestling‘s G1 Climax 29. The show featured five tournament matches from A Block and was the first time G1 competition has taken place outside of Japan. NJPW G1 Climax 29 Opening Night Results:
1. Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) def. Roppongi 3K (Sho and Yoh.) G.O.D. pinned Yoh after their super-powerbomb.
2. Jeff Cobb and Ren Narita def. Tomohiro Ishii and Shota Umino. Cobb pinned Umino after a Tour of the Islands. Cobb and Ishii stared each other down and brawled after the match.
3. Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi def. Jay White and Chase Owens. Goto pinned Owens after a GTR.
4. Toru Yano, Juice Robinson, and Jushin Thunder Liger def. Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, and Bushi Yano rolled up Bushi for the win after a low blow.
– A video announced the NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed tour of the U.S. East Coast from September 27-29, 2019. The September 28 show will include a celebration of referee Tiger Hattori’s retirement.
5. A Block Tournament Match: Lance Archer def. Will Ospreay. Archer pinned Ospreay with the EBD Claw, his take on the Iron Claw.
6. A Block Tournament Match: Bad Luck Fale def. Evil. Fale pinned Evil after a Bad Luck Fall.
7. A Block Tournament Match: Sanada def. Zack Sabre Jr. Sanada pinned ZSJ after a Japanese leg clutch hold. Sabre attacked referee Marty Asami after the match, putting him in a triangle choke.
8. A Block Tournament Match: KENTA def. Kota Ibushi. Kenta pinned Ibushi after Go 2 Sleep. After the match, Kenta soaked in the audience reactions and said, “I’m back.” He helped Ibushi to his feet and the two men hugged.
9. A Block Tournament Match: Kazuchika Okada def. Hiroshi Tanahashi. Okada pinned Tanahahashi after a Rainmaker.
