Ladies and gentlemen, the hits keep on coming. While we wait for Uhaa Nation to report to NXT and wonder if Samoa Joe will be doing the same, WWE has added another independent star to their payroll. PWInsider is reporting that Ring of Honor stalwart Jimmy Jacobs has signed with World Wrestling Entertainment, but there’s a bit of a twist. It appears that Jacobs won’t be wrestling, but rather working for the creative team, where he’s expected to start in April.
Right away, my knee-jerk reaction is to say that I like this a lot. This is for a number of reasons, the biggest one being that we’re 12 days removed from WrestleMania, and I can’t ever remember feeling less hyped for the event. I will take just about anything to shake off these doldrums. But this isn’t just anybody we’re talking about here, this is the Zombie Princess! Jacobs has given 15 years (roughly half his life) to the world of wrestling, and he’s worked too hard and suffered too many injuries to not have a WWE paycheck come his way. I remember being in the crowd for an independent show in September 2013 and seeing him take a move off the top rope that left him with a pretty scary concussion, so if he’s ready to stop taking those kinds of bumps, more power to him.
And let’s not forget that with WWE, Jacobs will be reuniting with longtime tag partner Seth Rollins. The Age of the Fall was one of Ring of Honor’s most memorable tag teams, and I’m sure the two are glad to be back under the same roof, so to speak. One minor complaint: I’m a bit behind on Chikara right now, so I have no idea if this messes with the storyline Jacobs had going with them. If he’s not using those plague doctor masks anymore, I’ll gladly take one.
