This week’s Friday Wrestling Conversation takes advantage of the fact that this site’s always Besting and Worsting things and asks, “what’s the single best thing about pro wrestling right now?” What’s the worst?
When we say pro wrestling we mean pro wrestling, so it doesn’t have to be WWE. If you want to divide it up by promotion, go for it. If you want to say what you love about your local indie promotion or what you hate about New Japan (if there is something), go for it. Nothing’s off limits, and the only cost to play is to read everyone else’s and tell them what you think.
Here’s the thing: we’ve been really negative about WWE lately, but WWE isn’t all there is. There’s SO MUCH to love in wrestling right now. NJPW, NXT, Lucha Underground, Australian women’s wrestling, Kaiju, whatever. Here a thing I love: Backstage segments on Lucha Underground. They make me happy every single time and I don’t know how to explain it. They don’t even have to be about anything, they just happen and my brain releases morphine.
As for the Worst? Right now it’s whenever WWE announcers try to put “shizzle” into things. Or just JBL’s accent when he starts talking to a black person. That makes me feel sad in my bones.
And of course, there are more important things happening on both ends of the spectrum that deserve a conversation. Let’s have it. What are your choices?
