We reported a couple days ago that the former First Lady of Wrestling Missy Hyatt had been arrested for grand theft in her hometown of Tallahassee, Fla. We didn’t know the exact details of the alleged crime at the time (in Florida, grand theft is anything more than $300 and under $5,000), but details have emerged from Missy herself. Now, this is just Missy’s story, so you may want to take it with a hefty grain of salt, but there’s no way I wasn’t going to report on an explanation this delightfully wacky.
Apparently, the arrest was related to a misunderstanding at a Civil War reenactment because Florida, y’all. Another woman left a reenactment jacket in a car Hyatt had rented, and she left and returned the car without knowing the jacket was there. This other woman then reported the jacket stolen, claiming it was worth $10,000 (did she get it the same place WWE buys its microphones?). When Hyatt learned she was being charged, she turned herself into police. According to Missy, the woman laying the charges has no proof of the value of the jacket, and she has found similar jackets online for only $200.
“When this goes to court, it will be laughed at/thrown out/or bumped down to a civil matter. There is a moral to the story, do not accidentally leave stuff in any vehicle that I’m turning in. Do not leave anything with me. Failure to do so will result in me being arrested.”
I love how Missy basically frames this as an inevitability. Like, at some point, everybody accidentally steals a valuable Civil War jacket, and it was just her turn. Then again, Florida, y’all. We’ll update you on this hot story on the off chance that Missy was stretching the truth a bit here.
