Dave Bautista Is The Lead Villain In The Luc Besson-Written Martial-Arts Movie ‘Warrior’s Gate’

Trying to keep up with Dave Bautista’s ever-expanding list of projects is starting to get just a bit mind-boggling. The former Batista has obviously taken a page from his pro-wrestling buddy The Rock, and has adopted an “accept all offers and sort it out later” approach to choosing projects. The dude’s already set to appear in at least five upcoming movies, including Spectre, Kickboxer: Vengeance and, of course, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and now we can add another film to that list.

Bautista will play the lead villain in Warrior’s Gate, a martial-arts movie about a teenager who gets transported to China via magical means, then uses his mad video game skillz to beat up real-life martial artists. Hoooo boy, that’s a premise alright. The movie is written by Luc Besson, so it could be knowingly stupid like The Fifth Element and Lucy or it could be just straight-up stupid like Taxi and, uh, most other Luc Besson movies.

So far, Warrior’s Gate stars Bautista, Sienna Guillory and various unknowns. Warrior’s Gate is being funded by China’s state-owned Fundamental Films, which explains why the movie exists in the first place. Gotta grab that sweet Chinese cash.

We’ll continue to keep you posted on all “Bautista signs on to play another hulking, unemotional villain” news. Actually, I better make sure he didn’t take another role while I was writing this. Checking, checking… okay, I think we’re set (for now).
