The Rio Problems Continue With Flooding At An Olympic Village Hotel

The Rio Olympics officially kick off Friday, and while the lead-up to the games was filled with dread about myriad problems in construction, security and hygiene, none of those concerns seem to have been addressed. Under the construction category, we have this lovely scene from the athlete’s village hotel at which Czech cyclist Zdenek Stybar is staying.

It appears that the hotel’s stairwell either has been converted into a fountain, or something has sprung a serious leak:

It’s no surprise, as everyone from athletes to media have noted the shoddy conditions emblematic of rushed (or simply incompetent) construction, but it’s still a shameful state of affairs when these athletes, most of whom spend their entire lives training for one shot at the Olympics, have their experience marred by their living conditions, or worse, getting robbed.

The British swimming team may have gotten robbed, or they may have fallen victim to poorly organized Olympic employees, but one thing’s for sure: Their swimsuits are missing.

Luckily for them, the British Olympic Federation is well-funded enough to have backup suits, and those are accounted for. We won’t see anyone miss an event over this, but it’s once again a classic #RioProblems moment.
