Donald Trump is just too easy to troll on Twitter. Considering how the leading Republican presidential candidate uses his own Twitter account to harass Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly and countless others with insults and retweets, it’s no wonder that hashtags like #Girthers and #WhitesAgainstTrump pop up. Hence the 10-year-old social-media platform’s latest attempt to shame the Donald, #SaferThanATrumpRally — a play on the fact that violence often erupts at Trump’s campaign events due to Trump supporters, staff members and the man himself.
The festivities began when Morning Blaze radio hosts Doc Thompson and Skip LaCombe dedicated their Monday-morning show to the new hashtag and all of its possible meanings. Before the pair was anywhere near finished with their three-hour program, however, Twitter quickly co-opted #SaferThanATrumpRally and made it viral.
Most of the first dozen or so tweets were highly politicized — mentioning everything from nighttime violence in Chicago to the remaining presidential candidates in the field:
