Keeping track of video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).
Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week — think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I’ll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a “Pick of the Week”.
Hit the jump for the five games you’re going to want to check out this week…
This Week’s Regular Game
Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby in 8-Bit Land (3DS, Oct. 29th)
Fiiist pump! Mordecai and Rigby get their first major video game! Like the last couple Adventure Time games, WayForward is developing this one with a lot of input from J. G. Quintel, so it will probably accurately capture the feel of Regular Show if nothing else.
This Week’s Sonic Game
Sonic Lost World (Wii U, Oct. 29th)
This one’s getting somewhat mixed reviews, because, well, it’s a Sonic game. That’s just what happens to Sonic games because nobody agrees on what a Sonic game is supposed to be in 2013. Sonic Lost World still looks solid to me, and come on, if you’re a Sonic fan you’ve subjected yourself to far worse.
This Week’s Pro-Graps Game
WWE 2K14 (Xbox 360 & PS3, Oct. 29th)
WWE video games are a lot like WWE’s top star John Cena — they’re always going to be around, they’ll never change much, and even though they can be frustrating at times, they’re really not all that bad. This is the first WWE game under the 2K Sports banner, and it’s getting somewhat above average reviews for a WWE game, so if you’ve been holding out for a while, you might want to jump back in the ring with this one.
This Week’s Shootery Thing
Battlefield 4 (PC, Xbox 360 & PS3, Oct. 29th)
Can’t wait until the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts next week to start shooting dudes? Well, Battlefield 4 arrives this week and it actually looks better than the latest CoD in a number of ways. For instance, the game’s storyline seems a little less absurd, it’s graphics are better and of course there are those gamers out there that swear the Battlefield mutliplayer experience is totally superior. But hey, if you’re already a Battlefield person, you probably don’t need me to tell you all this.
Pick of the Week
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii U, Oct. 29th)
I’ll admit, like a lot of folks I thought I was pretty much finished with Assassin’s Creed after the decent, but very messy Assassin’s Creed III, but man, Assassin’s Creed IV is looking good. ACIV just looks much more seamless and less laden with convoluted storyline crap than it’s predecessor. Also, pirates! Pirates make everything better, right?
Wow, well Oct. 29th is certainly going to be the busiest gaming Tuesday of the year. Planning to grab any of the above-mentioned games? Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let everyone know.
