All good things must come to an end. Such is the case with the fantastic run of BATGIRL by writers Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher and artist Babs Tarr. After a year and a half and 15 issues, Barbara Gordon will be moving on in the upcoming DC REBIRTH event. But she”s going out with a bang…hopefully not literally.
It”s the explosive conclusion of the epic that changed Barbara Gordon forever! The enemy lurking at the edges of Batgirl”s life has been revealed, as have the gang of heroes assembled to help her! From this point on, Batgirl doesn”t walk alone! It”s an extra-sized celebration of the greatest hero Burnside has ever known, from Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr!
I”ve made it no secret I”m a huge fan of the Batgirl of Burnside. I”ve thoroughly enjoyed where Stewart, Fletcher, and Tarr have taken Babs as a character. Perhaps their greatest achievement is moving Batgirl past being defined by the actions of THE KILLING JOKE, and even calling the entire event into question recently. I”ll be sad to see the team move on, but I”m excited to see where the new team – writers Julie Benson and Shawna Benson and artist Claire Roe – take Babs in the new BATGIRL & THE BIRDS OF PREY book as well as Hope Larson”s take on the BATGIRL solo book with artist Rafael Albuquerque. The former promises to track down who is impersonating Oracle while the latter sees Batgirl backpacking through Asia.
