The Thanksgiving Trailer For ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Looks To Build Some Trust For The Holidays

It’s pretty easy to get excited for Rogue One ahead of its release on December 16th. Along with announcing that advance tickets would go on sale this Monday, November 28th, Lucasfilm also gave us one — we can assume final — trailer for the film ahead of its release. The main idea here is trust. Trust in The Force, trust in your teammates, trust in your new robotic companions, and I guess trust in yourself. That’s all well and good, but I just want to see Donnie Yen go wild on a bunch of stormtroopers for like two hours.

There’s a lot of cool stuff in this trailer, including the Yen beatdown mentioned above, plus we get to see that AT-ACT confrontation we’ve seen in all the trailers to this point doesn’t end the way you expect. You have to like how Gareth Edwards basically makes you think the big walker is a giant monster that almost reacts to the explosion like a fighter who is faking to get the upper hand. It doesn’t work, but it’s cool.

We also get a nice slice of Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, nonchalantly killing stormtroopers and showing that his support is unwavering, but only because the captain told him to do so. It’s nice to get a droid that’s mouthy and somewhat rebellious AND that you can understand instead of just hearing beeps. Who needs R2-D2?
