Anthony Hopkins will be facing off with Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich in the recently-announced “Red” sequel – if, that is, a certain Marvel superhero doesn’t get in his way.
According to Deadline, the Oscar-winning actor has expressed interest in playing a villain named Edward Bailey in the follow-up to the hit 2010 comic-book adaptation, but his “Thor 2” shooting schedule may get in the way of him participating, depending on what can be worked out. In the latter film Hopkins is slated to reprise his role as Thor’s father Odin, and production is expected to begin this summer. Leaving one to surmise, of course, that “Red 2” distributor Summit is aiming for a start date at around the same time.
There are currently no plot details available for “Red 2,” which is set to be directed by “Galaxy Quest” helmer Dean Parisot (Robert Schwentke was responsible for the first installment).
Hopkins’ next film is the Fernando Meirelles-directed drama “360,” which is slated for an August 3 release. He’s currently starring as Alfred Hitchcock in director Sacha Gervasi’s “Hitchcock” (f.k.a. “Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho”) opposite Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, James D’Arcy and Helen Mirren.
