Captain America: Civil War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been giving numerous interviews lately, in some cases revealing the stories behind the fan-favorite climactic battle and the things that were left out of that airport fight scene. As for the latter, Markus and McFeely told Fandango there was nearly a face-off between Captain America and Black Widow.
“There was a good fight between Captain America and Black Widow that we lost mainly due to time,” Christopher Markus explains.
Another reason the fight never happened was because, narratively, they were already addressing the tensions between Cap and Black Widow — not to mention the similar dynamic between Black Widow and Hawkeye.
There was already a fight between Black Widow and Hawkeye in that scene (partial clip here), and that match up makes a lot more sense. The nixed scene had an obvious winner.
“I guess Cap [won],” Mcfeely says. “Let’s just say he got away in the moment, how about that?”
Er, yeah. Obviously. Black Widow is cool and all, but she’s a spy, not a supersoldier. People without superpowers who try to take on Captain America tend to get kicked into buildings or otherwise left worse for the wear.
Oh, they dead.
