“What if Superman had decided to fly down and grab the President right out of the Oval Office? Who would have stopped him?” That’s the question posed in the newest trailer for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
The MTV Movie Awards are on right now, dropping exclusives like the first clip from Captain America: Civil War and now a new trailer for Suicide Squad as well. This one continues the theme of setting funny scenes to classic songs, along with vignettes of never-before-seen footage. We get a reminder that Ben Affleck’s Batman is going to make an appearance, as he’s going after Jared Leto’s “you’re not ready for this” Joker.
There’s also plenty of Will Smith’s Deadshot being a wiseguy, and we have to believe Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) when he says the reshoots the film is currently doing aren’t to add more jokes, as rumored, but to film more action scenes, as the many funny beats throughout these trailers would suggest they already had plenty of humor to begin with.
And, of course, much of the humor comes down to expert tattooist Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the “vexing” Harley Quinn. She’s really the one we’re looking forward to seeing when Suicide Squad opens Aug. 5.
