Donald Trump Believes His Voters Wouldn’t Leave Him Even If ‘I Shoot Somebody’

At a rally in Sioux City, just moments after saying he has to be careful because his speeches are always broadcast live (unlike his competitors both in the Republican race and across the aisle), Donald Trump did what he does best and hyperbolized his way into a headline:

“They say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that? Where I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters. It’s like, incredible.”

Whether or not his legions of supporters would think twice about their chosen candidate isn’t really important to his hypothetical scenario. Yet what he says makes little sense when one considers the fifteen minutes he spent describing the attack on Christianity. Trump is using this topic as a talking point for his candidacy, and he’s earnest in his delivery. He must not notice how “thou shall not kill” is a major Christianity tenet.

Trump would do well to pause while assessing his voter base. Masses of die-hard Trump supporters have the mogul’s back, and to lump all Trump supporters into a group that’s in the KKK, or Nazi sympathizers, or people who would avert their eyes to a murder in the middle of 5th Avenue is unfair to the hardworking citizens who want real change in Washington. When he makes comments like this, could Trump be burying himself?

This tweeter still can’t believe what he’s witnessing from Trump.
