An update on the ongoing, queasy-making saga of Daniel Bryan’s health: When we last reported on this story, Bryan had been sent home early from WWE’s European tour. Speculation was that Bryan had suffered a concussion, although WWE has specifically denied that rumor.
That said, something more serious than regular wrestler wear and tear is going on here. Bryan no-showed Raw, and probably won’t be on SmackDown, either. And what about his promised match against Wade Barrett at Extreme Rules? Well, WWE just updated their preview of the Bryan/Barrett bout at Extreme Rules, and it sounds like the match may be in doubt…
“Daniel Bryan rose above six other Superstars to capture his first Intercontinental Championship in a Ladder Match at WrestleMania. However, if the ever-popular “Yes!” Man hopes to hold onto the title, he’ll have to get past the Superstar who lost the championship that day, Bad News Barrett, at Extreme Rules. Bryan is undergoing diagnostic testing to see if he can defend his title at Extreme Rules.”
I certainly don’t like the sound of “diagnostic testing”. You don’t go in for diagnostic testing for bumps and bruises. If Bryan can’t defend the IC title at Extreme Rules, we may be looking at an exact replica of last year’s situation with the WWE title, just with a lesser belt. I really don’t want to go through this again next year with a revived Cruiserweight title.
Here’s hoping Bryan’s test results are the best news possible.
