Daniel Bryan has been pretty candid about his career status and his injuries ever since he was put on the shelf after WrestleMania 31. He hasn’t pulled any punches, and he’ll be brutally honest about his career outlook even when it’s for an interview with a Singapore newspaper for a story on him building terrariums for local kids (because he’s still the best Homo sapien ever). At the veeeeery bottom of the article, we get this gem:
He said his injury was concussion-related and even though he has been cleared by a personal doctor, he is still waiting for the WWE doctor to clear him.
Bryan said: “I think it could be the end of my career in WWE, but I don’t think it will be the end of my career.
“I could find another passion, but it would just be sad because this is what I have been most passionate about since I was five.”
Dammit.
While I do want Daniel Bryan back wrestling — the idea of him vs. Brock is the match I think I most want to see this year — his last run was just too stressful. I never felt like he was healthy enough to come back, and it was hard to watch and enjoy his matches. For instance, I can’t believe he was still taking off with flying headbutts after his injury. It just never sat well with me.
Ultimately, Bryan’s safety is the top priority, and if he never wrestles, then he never wrestles. We’ll get over it eventually if we know he’s living a full, healthy life.
