As we inch ever closer to CM Punk‘s professional MMA debut at UFC 203, the Straight Edge Savior we all know and loved so much during his WWE run is ending up in front of microphone more and more often. First, he told us about how pro wrestling is “overscripted to death“; then, he talked about Brock Lesnar giving him advice on how to make the transition to UFC; oh yeah, and then he called Jon Jones a p*ssy.
Now, Punk has weighed in on the ongoing battle between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and, well, everyone in the WWE locker room. First, McGregor called all WWE performers p*ssies, then when he walked back his insult by promising to “slap the head off [their] entire roster,” a variety of WWE Superstars returned the favor, blasting McGregor via Twitter.
Appearing on Hot 97 earlier this week, CM Punk was asked by Peter Rosenberg about the brouhaha. “I think the thing that shocked me the most about what Conor said is the number of people who worked there who responded to him who should know better,” Punk said.
When Rosenberg asked if that meant he felt they got worked, Punk didn’t hesitate to clarify:
“I don’t feel like they got worked — they got worked. Ric Flair? Come on, just stop. Just knock it off. Volunteering guys to fight Conor and it’s across the board, it’s not just the WWE guys so I don’t want anybody f*cking saying I’m harping on WWE, I’m not but it’s just embarrassing. Fighting with anybody on Twitter. You can fight with the idiots on Twitter, but from the outside perspective, they don’t know who the idiot is. Don’t respond.”
Later in the interview, Rosenberg asks Punk what he hopes will happen come September 10, and the answer shouldn’t be surprising to CM Punk fans:
“Honestly, there’s no assuming — I’m gonna win. I’ve never been more confident in something in my entire life.”
Let’s hope so, Punk, otherwise that five-part documentary about you is gonna end on a pretty sour note.
