It’s not every day that your namesake and the greatest competitor in your athletic field gives you a rousing endorsement and haltingly says your catchphrase. For any of us, it’s probably closer to never, as real people don’t usually have catchphrases or impressive athletic achievements. As a Canadian, my brain is programmed to rank Olympic achievements as 1) Hockey, 2) Figure Skating, 3) The Rest, so American amateur wrestling is not my wheelhouse (icehouse?). That said, I still know enough to know in my heart that this is downright adorable:

To bring you up to speed: Chad Gable is the NXT superstar who has the heart of every With Spandex writer swaddled in his pun-printed towels. He’s a gifted natural athlete, he wears Steiner singlets with his tag partner Jason Jordan, they throw the prettiest suplexes, and are best friends and soulmates, probably. Gable is an Olympic Trials champion and has medaled at various international competitions. He’s just really great and none of us have ever doodled his name in hearts and stars in our notebooks haha that’d be ridiculous we’re adults *frantically hides every notebook she owns*
Dan Gable is an Olympic amateur wrestling legend. He plowed through his opponents like Jenna Maroney at the Olympic Village, never giving up a point on his way to winning gold at the 1972 Olympics. He coached the wrestling team at the University of Iowa to 15 NCAA championships, and only ever lost one match during his own impressive collegiate career. If anyone knows what’s up, it’s Chad Gable’s namesake. And even he thinks Gable is the truth.
