Whether you know singer Darius Rucker from his successful country music career or as “Hootie” but not actually Hootie from Hootie & The Blowfish, here’s the only fact you need to know about him going forward: he’s an old school pro wrestling fan, and does a passable-to-pretty-good impression of the late, great “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Jump to the 1:50 mark in the clip for the wrestling talk.
Granted, all you have to do for a passable Dusty Rhodes is say something Dusty might’ve said and lisp, but he commits to it, and that’s worth commending. He’s got a ways to go before he’s at a Dean Ambrose level. Also, he endears himself to me forever by explaining that he hates the Atlanta Braves because they’d occasionally pre-empt WCW Saturday Night on TBS during baseball season. All he needs to do now is know the ‘Captain Planet & The Planeteers’ theme by heart, because if you tuned in to TBS and their goofy-ass :05 scheduling to watch wrestling, you’d have to sit through the end credits. ♫ “Bad guys who like to, loot and plunder!” ♫
While we’re talking about him, does anybody else think it’s weird that Darius Rucker laughs like he sings? Listen, you’ll hear it.
