Details On What May Have Led To AJ Lee’s Retirement, And When She Told WWE She Was Done

As you may have heard, AJ Lee has officially retired from WWE, and we now have more information about what spurred her decision.

Things have been more than bit awkward between WWE and AJ Lee for some time, with her husband CM Punk walking out on the company under controversial circumstances and tearing the company a new entertainment hole on Colt Cabana’s podcast. The issue that apparently pushed her hand was the company backing Dr. Chris Amann’s lawsuit against her husband. In his podcast appearances, Punk claimed that Amann ignored a possibly deadly MSRA infection, an accusation Amann obviously denies. WWE went so far as to create a video package of sexy, slo-mo CM Punk butt shots to disprove his claims.

There was some question as to whether AJ would show up for WrestleMania, as she delayed her return several times, claiming a neck injury hadn’t healed yet. She also called out Stephanie McMahon about the company’s treatment of women shortly before her return.

AJ didn’t inform WWE of her intention to retire until after WrestleMania. The reason she “retired” from something she loves at such a young age is because it was the only way to get out of the rest of her contract. She’s still signed for a couple more years, during which she can’t wrestle for any other company.

It’s an unfortunate situation, as it sounds like AJ was stuck between two stubborn entities. Ultimately, you eventually have to take sides, and understandably, she went with the side she has to go home to every night. What do you think about the whole situation? Do you think we might eventually see her back with WWE or somebody else?
