WWE’s seemingly endless string of high profile injuries continues this weekend as NXT Champion Finn Bálor has suffered an ankle injury.
WWE.com’s update doesn’t add much information, but provides a small update:
NXT Champion Finn Bálor suffered an ankle injury on Saturday during an NXT Live Event in Nashville, Tenn. According to WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann, “Finn Bálor suffered an ankle injury, and will be unable to compete tonight.”
The NXT Champion will undergo further evalution on Monday, Amann said.
The injury reportedly happened when Bálor hit a double-stomp to the back of Samoa Joe’s head. Here’s the scene from immediately after the match, with Bálor struggling to get to his feet with the referee’s help.

If the injury happened on the Coup de Grâce, it could be as simple as a rolled ankle. That wouldn’t keep Bálor out of action very long, and with NXT having taped shows through March he’d definitely be back in time for NXT Dallas on WrestleMania weekend. We’ve gotten pretty familiar with these WWE injury updates, however, so if it turns out Bálor has to have both of his legs amputated we won’t be surprised. Okay, maybe a little.
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed, and hope that the face of NXT isn’t on injured reserve for long.
