Last Wednesday, Finn Bálor lost his NXT Championship rematch against Samoa Joe at NXT TakeOver: The End, further fueling speculation that his days in Full Sail were numbered.
Bálor had previously stated that being called up would be “detrimental” to his career, but that was before he lost the NXT title, and he has been teasing fans about his call-up ever since. With the WWE brand split coming next month, the main roster will be in need of more talent, and one would think Bálor would one of the first names called upon. Now, the Wrestling Observer is confirming that speculation, saying that Bálor’s call-up is “imminent.”
The move has been expected and reportedly on the verge of happening more times than we can recall, but the timing is perhaps a little odd at the moment, considering the main event segment of the latest episode of NXT television was Shinsuke Nakamura challenging Bálor to a match. Of course, as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have both proven, it’s totally possible to be involved in storylines on both rosters at once.
It will be super interesting to see where Bálor ends up once he does move up. He would appear to have all the tools necessary to be a major player right away, so hopefully creative has something planned for him once he goes to Raw or SmackDown. Many believed Bálor would take over for AJ Styles as leader of The Club, (a reversal of how it went in New Japan) but with Styles’ recent heel turn, that seems much less likely.
All I know is that when Finn makes his first demon entrance on the main roster, it’s going to absolutely blow the minds of anyone who somehow hasn’t jumped aboard the NXT train.
