Today’s Worst Wrestling News: Japanese Star Kota Ibushi Is Out Indefinitely Due To Injury

Bad news for people who like good wrestling today as one of the top performers in the world, Japan’s “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi, has been sidelined with a herniated disc and is on the shelf indefinitely.

Via Dave Meltzer:

Both New Japan and DDT, the two companies he’s under contract two, made the announcement today. Ibushi missed his weekend DDT shows and the rumor was that he had a serious health issue. At the press conference, it was announced that even though he won’t be wrestling for a while and his New Japan contract expires in January, that he will be renewed by the company.

New Japan made the announcement that he would be out of Saturday’s Power Struggle show. DDT announced he would be out of action for “a long time.”

If you aren’t familiar with the wonder of Kota Ibushi, check out his IWGP Intercontinental Championship match against Shinsuke Nakamura from this year’s Wrestle Kingdom. It’s one of the best matches you’ll see this year. Ibushi has wrestled around the world — including a spectacular appearance in Chikara Pro — and is the kind of performer that can turn a match against a blow-up doll into one of the most spectacularly athletic affairs you’ve ever seen. We wish him the speediest-possible recovery, and hope that “a long time” doesn’t turn out to be very long at all.
