Long Live The Lads: The League Of Nations Is Reportedly Breaking Up

The League of Nations came together as a group originally to protect Sheamus’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but once that ended they basically were just around to play fodder to Roman Reigns and a bunch of guys from the ’90s.

The group already kicked out one member in King Barrett, but now, according to Alberto Del Rio, the other three members are going to go their own ways with a mutual breakup. Del Rio recently did a Spanish-language interview with Solo Wrestling, and the former WWE Champion discussed openly the group’s lackluster runĀ and said that he, Rusev, and Sheamus would be going back to singles competition after Bray Wyatt’s injury derailed their planned feud with The Wyatt Family.

It’s easy to make fun of The League of Nations due to their tendency to be thrown into random Raw main events when there was no one else to put in the spot, but they probably could have been something important had they been treated differently. Other than their win over The New Day at WrestleMania (which was immediately followed up by them looking like jokes against Stone Cold and the like) I can’t recall any significant victories they had as a team. They did a nice job of making Sheamus’ title run a bit more credible, but that’s about it.

All in all, this is good for all four guys since they are all talented in their own right and should be given a chance in the singles ranks. Sheamus and Del Rio can become upper mid-card heels that can be used to help elevate some of the younger guys coming up, Rusev is one of the most talented dudes on the show and can now attempt to regain the momentum he had in 2014/early 2015, and King Barrett…..well, he’ll look great in this year’s G1 Climax.
