Anthony Pettis and Edson Barboza knew that their meeting at UFC 197 likely had title implications. They’re both knocking on the door, with Barboza wanting to finally deliver on years of explosive hype, and Pettis is looking to get his UFC lightweight belt back. UFC fans knew that this was going to be a kick fight in the extreme, but not many expected Barboza to batter down the crafty Pettis and be so successful with his strikes. The never-ending chopping leg kicks by Edson Barboza to Anthony Pettis were probably the nastiest we’ve witnessed since Jose Aldo brutalized Urijah Faber.
Needless to say, it’s time to gaze at the handiwork of Edszon Barboza.
LOOK AT THE FOOTPRINT PERFECTLY EMBEDDED IN ANTHONY PETTIS’ FLESH FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO DISCOVER.
Seriously, look at it.
If Pettis is looking that rough just as the fight ended, he’ll be looking much worse in the coming days.
This is one of the worst leg batterings in years, and since it has such strong shades of Faber/Aldo to go along with the black and blue, it’s good to look back on that historic leg-chopping.
Faber had his leg swell up to twice its normal size the next day. Maybe Pettis will get to experience this?
WEC never die.
