Who actually remembers what happened in 52? I’m struggling to recall even though I have a full run packed away in a closet. Oh well, what matters is that we all bought 52, which means DC is never going to stop trying to make weekly comics happen again.
A couple months back DC announced that 2014 will see the release of Batman Eternal, a new weekly Bat-comic overseen by Scott Snyder, and now DC has unveiled plans for The New 52: Futures End.
The New 52: Futures End will be written by Jeff Lemire, Keith Giffen, Brian Azzarello and Dan Jurgens and will explore the “past, present and future” of the New 52 universe. Basically, the series will follow three main characters (Frankenstein in the past, Firestorm in the present and the Batman Beyond version of Batman in the future) with their stories eventually colliding and culminating in one big event. DC is also promising appearances by many other heroes, and perhaps even the debut of some new characters (remember, Batwoman was the one of the major things to come out of 52).
I have to admit, I’m a fan of all the creators and characters involved in The New 52: Futures End, but I’m just not crazy about the weekly comic format. More to the point, my wallet’s not a fan of the weekly comic format. Are you folks excited for DC’s two new weekly series? If you could only give one a try, which would it be?
