Does Martin Shkreli Owe The IRS $4.5 Million In Unpaid Taxes?

At this point, everyone should be well-acquainted with the terrible behavior and generally horrible characteristics of one Martin Shkreli. He’s basically a real life comic book villain. Now infamous for jacking up the price of a cancer drug more than 750 percent, buying the only copy of a priceless Wu Tang Clan album, and being an overall smug idiot, Shkreli now has another mark on his rap sheet. According to Gawker, he also owes the IRS at least $4.5 million in back taxes.

Shkreli, who is facing federal securities fraud charges in Brooklyn, allegedly owes $3,431.85 from 2013 and $4,625,496.70 from 2014. The lien was prepared on December 18, 2015 and filed with the Office of the City Register on January 11, 2016.

This should be no surprise to anyone paying attention to Shkreli’s ongoing saga. After hitting peak awfulness, he was arrested for securities fraud – which the internet loved – and fired as the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. Even those bumps in the road should have been okay, seeing as he surely put some money away from years of high salaries and cushy job titles, right? Wrong. Apparently Martin has been skimping on his taxes, and now owes the IRS more money than most people will ever see in a lifetime. This lien means, basically, that the U.S. government owns him and all he possesses until they recoup what they are owed. Good luck with that, Shkreli! I’m sure you will have a line of people around the block willing to help with your troubles.
