Selina Kyle Is Reveled To Be Bisexual In The Latest Issue Of ‘Catwoman’

Here’s one for the “interesting, but not particularly surprising” file. Former Catwoman and current Gotham City mob boss Selina Kyle has been confirmed to be bisexual in the latest issue of Catwoman. I say it’s not surprising because Selina has always been portrayed as the sexually adventurous type, and her being bisexual has certainly been teased numerous times in the past. Now, it’s canon.

In issue #39 of Catwoman, Selina shares a kiss with Eiko Hasagawa, the woman currently inhabiting the Catwoman persona, and the dialogue and narration seems to confirm that this was more than just a random thing. Catwoman writer Genevieve Valentine spoke about her decision to reveal Selina’s bisexuality:

“She’s flirted around it — often quite literally — for years now. For me, this wasn’t a revelation so much as a confirmation. Eiko seemed like the right person: intelligent, driven, in that uncanny valley of Almost Catwoman, and knows enough about Selina that their honesty has become something of a shelter in a situation that’s getting increasingly dishonest for everybody involved. Was it a surprise for them? In terms of their sexualities, not particularly. Certainly it’s no surprise to Selina that she has an attraction to a woman.”

Don’t worry, though. Smoochin’ ladies doesn’t mean Selina’s going cold turkey on the Batman…

“Her relationship with Batman has fundamental cracks they both know about, and there’s a lot of work ahead of them if they ever plan to fix those.”

Again, we all kind of knew, but it’s nice to see this long-teased character trait finally confirmed. It’s also nice to see Selina’s sexuality treated seriously instead of in the salacious “woo hoo, girls might kiss!” way it has in the past.

Anybody out there been keeping up to date with Selina Kyle’s current exploits? What do you think of her being confirmed as bisexual?
