So, let’s talk about Global Force Wrestling. Jeff Jarrett and his team behind GFW were nice enough to bring New Japan Pro Wrestling’s blockbuster Wrestle Kingdom 9 to American pay-per-view audiences, but since then, it’s been pretty quiet on the GFW front. An impressive alliance of wrestling promotions stretching across Europe, Mexico, Japan, and Australia is already on board with Jarrett, but we hadn’t heard anything about an independently-produced show until this morning. Finally, there’s news about GFW’s first volley of shows, and it’ll be invading minor league baseball stadiums across the United States starting in June. Here are some excerpts from the official press release:
The historic first Global Force Wrestling show will be held on Friday night, June 12 at The Ballpark at Jackson in Jackson, Tennessee as part of GFW’s “MiLB Grand Slam Tour.” The tour will feature stops from Florida to California and several points in between.
…The stars of GFW will be appearing in such cities as Knoxville, Tennessee, Richmond, Virginia, and Clinton, Iowa. Dates for the summer ballpark tour are available on globalforcewrestling.com, and more will be added in the coming weeks.
…Atlanta Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski is excited about the alliance of his profession and his pastime.
“Wrestling and baseball make a great tag team,” said Pierzynski, a wrestling aficionado. “And I’m thrilled to see so many minor-league parks, some of which I’ve played in, jump on board.”
Global Force Wrestling will roll out its talent roster in the next couple of weeks. It’s a lineup filled with speed and power, righties and lefties, starters and closers, sure to provide thrills at every ballpark.

It’s a case of “better late than never,” but we finally have confirmation of actual GFW shows starting this summer. As you can see in the video above, a handful of dates are already official with more to come soon. I’m personally hoping they find their way to Dell Diamond (home of the Round Rock Express) because I will certainly make it a point to show up if they do. For the record, I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting an A.J. Pierzynski quote to factor into today’s wrestling news, but here we are.
