CM Punk Thinks Thanking God After A Win ‘Is A Weird Thing To Do’

MMA H.E.A.T. recently caught up with CM Punk to get an update on his training, as there’s no future debut fight in sight. Punk says he loves the challenge of trying new things, though admits that the biggest struggle in his training is actually the wrestling part. Hear that? That sound is a hundred wrestling fans crying out, “Yes, we already knew that,” and rolling their eyes so hard they physically hurt themselves.

Punk went on to praise his coaches and his time at Roufusport MMA. He’s recently moved to Milwaukee to alleviate the pressures of commuting from Chicago to train, and also re-enact this scene from Wayne’s World with Duke Roufus:

The conversation got a little more serious when Punk was asked about mixing God with real-life punching:

I’m a free speech guy. I think anybody can say whatever they want, you know? That being said, if there is a God, I think he’s got better things to do than worry about what somebody’s doing for fifteen minutes in a cage. I’d like to see people thank their coaches more than Jesus, you know what I mean? I think their coaches probably helped them win. I just think it’s a weird thing to do.

I guess his gratitude’s too short to… oh, nevermind.

When asked for an update on his debut fight, the answer was… kind of the same as it has been:

I’d love to fight tomorrow, you know what I mean? But I wanna be prepared as I possibly can be. I’m still shooting for December, it might be January, I’m not sure. But I’ll be ready when I fight.

I don’t ask my coaches, ‘How did I do today? Am I ready? They say, ‘Come back at 7’ and I come back at 7. They tell me to mop, I mop. They tell me to sweep, I sweep. If they tell me to work the mitts or come in and work extra, I do it.

I get no pressure from Dana or Lorenzo. I’ve got the best job in the world right now.
