Monday’s Episode Of WWE Raw Drew Its Second-Lowest Non-Holiday Viewership Since 1997

According to the Wrestling Observer newsletter, Monday’s episode of WWE Raw (June 29) drew 3.46 million viewers, a number lower than when WWE goes head-to-head with the NFL and low enough to be the company’s second-worst non-holiday viewership for a show since 1997. Highlights included 20 minutes of gift-giving, Dean Ambrose having a heart-to-heart with Terminator props, Dolph Ziggler and Lana “going public” and an extended, 10-minute beatdown of Roman Reigns.

Here’s Dave Meltzer with a breakdown:

The only non-holiday Raw that fell below 3.46 million viewers was on Dec. 3, 2012, went against a monster ratings for a New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins game. What makes this number even worse is that competition was non-existent (aside from the usual Love & Hip Hop Atlanta 4) and there was nothing of note when it came to sports competition other than a ESPN baseball game that drew 669,000 viewers.

Meltzer notes that this is the second week in a row that the show’s peaked in its final hour, going from 3.36 million viewers in hour one to 3.54 million in hour three. It’s also still high enough of a number to make Raw the highest rated show on cable for the night so there’s no need for abject panic, but still, the numbers should be noted. Are we ever going to get scared enough again to change the status quo, or is it just business as usual?

The second-lowest viewership in 18 years means one thing: Next week’s Raw opens with a Triple H promo. Okay, lots of things mean that.
