Kurt Angle Says He Was Supposed To End The Undertaker’s Streak

Kurt Angle won’t be re-signing with TNA, and isn’t signing anything that’s not an 8×10 in a Dave & Busters. Despite this, he’s still prepping for a full UK tour, and making as many media appearances as possible.

Raj Giri over at Wrestling Inc. recently interviewed Angle about TNA, his upcoming UK tour, and his feud against The Undertaker. Here’s Angle on Vince taking the comedy out of his performance:

Yeah, I liked doing the comedy, it was a lot of fun. That’s back when I really had a good time. Vince put an end to it. He thought that fans needed to take me more seriously. I didn’t think they needed to take me more seriously, I was a Gold medalist. Vince wanted the comedy to be out. I didn’t agree, but I did what he said.

In the years I spent watching and reviewing TNA, I’ve always said that Kurt Angle is best when he’s allowed to play up his comedic abilities. Super Serious Cyborg Kurt Angle is the pits. It’s a bummer that people keep pulling the plug. Wait, do cyborgs have plugs? Are they like hybrid cars? Does he get to use those fancy parking spots with electric plug towers at rich people malls? I assume so.

Angle also talked about who wanted him to end The Streak, and why Vince McMahon ultimately nixed that, as well:

I was champion in 2006 and Undertaker approached me and said he wanted to face me at WrestleMania. Until then, Undertaker didn’t have a WrestleMania moment with a five star match. He thought he could have that with me, and he was considering possibly losing as long as he had that moment he wanted, and I don’t blame him. Vince said no way, and I agreed with Vince.

I don’t think Undertaker should ever have lost at WrestleMania, I think he should have been undefeated forever. They made their choice, and if you’re going to do it with anybody, do it with Brock Lesnar, because he’s as legit as it gets. Me and Undertaker ended up having our match at No Way Out 2006. If you ever see that match, it was definitely a WrestleMania type of match.

It’s probably a good thing Vince McMahon ultimately kept the streak alive for as long as he did. Besides, we all know the only streak Kurt Angle was involved in that actually matters:
