Alexa Bliss Didn’t Think WWE Would Let Her Continue Her Love Of Cosplay On The Main Roster

Fans of WWE’s Alexa Bliss range from “people who have seen Alexa Bliss” to “people who have heard about Alexa Bliss.” One of the very best things about modern day pro wrestling for her facial expressions alone, the under-the-radar-inspirational two-time Smackdown women’s champion takes delight in being bad. And that’s probably why her ring gear evokes baddies like Harley Quinn and The Riddler, to name a few.

NXT viewers have long known about Bliss’ penchant for cosplay dating back to her BAMF days, when she was paired with NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy, and the trio would wear getups inspired by Iron Man and Nightmare on Elm Street, among others.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports, Bliss elaborated on her love of cosplay, comic books, and horror movies, and talked about how she was worried she wouldn’t be able to bring those characters to the main roster after getting called up.

I’m such a villain fan. I love comics, I love anything Disney – everyone knows that about me, I’m a big Disney fan – anything that’s fictional, I’m a huge fan of. It all started with Iron Man in NXT. [Buddy] Murphy [Bliss’s real-life fiancée] had the idea of us all three [Bliss, Murphy and Wesley Blake] dressing up as Iron Man and I thought it was such a cool concept, such a cool idea, that I just kept going with it.

I have a few characters left that I haven’t portrayed yet, I have a few more coming that I have the outfits for that I’m just waiting to perfect them. I did go a little non-villain at Elimination Chamber when I wore Superman, which was a lot of fun.

I just like portraying characters but making it my own. The Harley Quinn thing I was really excited about. I was so bummed because when I left NXT, I thought I couldn’t do the cosplay thing anymore.

My last gear in NXT was Freddy Krueger because I’m such a horror movie fan, it’s ridiculous, but I thought when I went to the main roster it would be a whole different ball game. I kind of ran with the Harley Quinn thing, I said I was going to try it anyway and say sorry after , but it got a great response and that gave me the freedom to do more.

In related news, while trying to find a good lede image for this post, I only JUST figured out that Bliss does that pose with her belt during her entrance because WWE probably won’t let one of their women wrestlers walk to the ring holding a baseball bat or a massive mallet. That’s a real bummer, man. Imagine Alexa hefting a mallet three times the size of her. So like … a mallet six feet long!

Ah, to dream.
