Dan Severn Calls Out Brock Lesnar Over His PED Usage In UFC

While his run in WWE barely lasted a year, Dan “The Beast” Severn is still an integral part of the company’s history, as he was the first — and to date, only — man to ever appear on WWE TV while holding a UFC title. On top of that, Severn was the NWA World Heavyweight Champion at the same time he was the UFC Superfight Heavyweight Champion, making him the only person in history to hold a major pro wrestling championship and a major MMA championship at the same time. The point is, this guy was and still is one shoe-leather tough sonovabitch.

So when he was asked during a recent Reddit AMA about Brock Lesnar, Severn had no problem sharing his feelings toward the WWE Superstar. Think he might have positive feelings toward his fellow dual-sport athlete? Think again. Severn remarks:

“[Lesnar] and his mouthpiece claim that he’s the new beast incarnate, or whatever he refers to him as. He’s acting like he’s the first wrestler to hold a belt in both wrestling and UFC.

Yet, I carried my NWA title out to the cage, and it sat next to my UFC title. Brock never did that.

And you know? One of us has never tested positive for PEDs, and one of us have not. WWE made such a big deal about him coming out at UFC 200. In one year, I kept up with the WWF’s schedule, working NWA, and cage fighting. I was on the road 20 days a month. I had to look in my daily planner to find out if I was a cage fighter or professional wrestler at the time.

The point is, Brock has done a total of NINE matches in his entire career. I did EIGHT in one year while under contract with the WWE. So once again, there IS no comparison.”

While Severn’s remarks might come off as a smidgen bitter at first, keep in mind this is a guy whose professional MMA record is an astounding 101-19-7 and who at age 58 still climbs back into the ring on occasion — and is currently teaching submission grappling at Arizona State University — so clearly he knows what he’s talking about. Since Lesnar’s temporary UFC suspension appears to be on the verge of being lifted already, someone put a call into Dana White and get these two into the Octagon, stat!
