UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier Doesn’t Think Kevin Owens Has Any Chance At An MMA Career

Daniel Cormier is gearing up for the massive UFC 200, where he will defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against interim champion Jon “Bones” Jones in an eagerly-anticipated rematch. He will also, of course, be fighting on the same card as the one and only Brock Lesnar.

Cormier appeared on Peter Rosenberg’s show on HOT 97 on Monday to talk about his upcoming fight, Brock, and a lot more. You can watch the whole interview above, but the most pressing bit where wrestling fans are concerned are Cormier’s comments about none other than Kevin Owens.

“Brock Lesnar is the only guy who’s over there [in the WWE] that can do that. You know, I saw something the other day, where a guy was telling a story about Kevin Owens, [and he] said the UFC is trying to sign Kevin Owens.

“Kevin, no. The UFC has not been trying to sign you, because you could not fight. It’s a different world. [I’m a] big fan of Kevin Owens, but it’s a different world.”

It’s clear Cormier is a wrestling fan (as are perhaps more MMA fighters than you’d expect), and he said he’s also excited about Lesnar coming back, both as a wrestling fan and as a UFC fighter whose wallet is definitely going to benefit from being on the same card. (Although he did say he was more excited for the fight between Travis Browne and the returning Cain Velasquez.)

As the only prizefighter in WWE, Kevin Owens will likely be saddened by these Cormier comments. Stay tuned to Owens’ Twitter feed for some delightfully withering comments.
