At the beginning of August, it was reported that Alberto Del Rio could be parting ways with WWE as early as September thanks an an opt-out clause in the contract that brought him back to the company. Welp, as September is rapidly approaching, that rumour has kicked back up.
Del Rio was recently on the wrong end of a 30-day suspension for violating WWE’s wellness policy alongside his real-life girfriend, fellow Superstar Paige. Now, the former World Heavyweight Champion has been pulled from all of his scheduled upcoming appearances after the date of his suspension.
Multiple outlets are now reporting that Del Rio is exercising that clause, which is the cause for him being pulled from live events. The Wrestling Observer explains:
According to sources close to the situation, he was unhappy, claiming he was given empty promises when they brought him back last year for a surprise return. He indicated he was promised a main event push and obviously that didn’t materialize.
Our sources say that Del Rio and WWE have not actually comes to terms with any kind of release, but with these rumours piling up, it probably won’t be too long before we get the official Future Endeavoured notification from WWE.
