It's pretty well known at this point that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were at odds with each other while shooting the original X-Files, but what, exactly, was at the root of their feud? Jimmy Kimmel tried to get to the bottom of it when he spoke to the pair on last night's show, and total awkwardness ensued as Anderson scrambled for an explanation.
“I wondered this for a long time, and um — I think part of it, you know, we shot in Vancouver, and it's very moist in Vancouver,” began Anderson, who promptly dissolved into uncomfortable laughter.
Oh, don't worry, this goes on for a full two minutes. You will laugh, you will cringe, you will cower in your seat. Honest to god, what the hell happened between these two. What is it. When Anderson finally finishes her thought, you'll feel just as confused as Duchovny looks. “Kinda makes me sound like an asshole,” he concludes. He's not wrong.
This is a perfect talk show moment of the sort we so rarely get in these post-“Fallon” days of canned bits and celebrity Pictionary. Let us treasure it.
