Well, here's something. In a new report over at the Playlist, Katherine Waterston's Alien: Covenant character is said to be — wait for it — Ripley's mother. From the site:

Sources close to film and actress tell the Playlist that Waterston will be playing Ellen Ripley”s mother in “Alien: Covenant,” which is an amazing twist and true to Scott”s promise that the post-“Prometheus” prequels will eventually lead right up to the first ‘Alien’ movie. But it should be noted that Waterston isn”t the lead of the movie, and it”s an ensemble piece like “Prometheus.”

I should stress that this is merely a rumor at this time, but if true, it represents a pretty substantial link between the Alien prequels that began with 2012's Prometheus and Scott's 1979 original. Stay tuned…

Alien: Covenant is slated for release on August 4, 2017.
