Former WWE Universal and NXT Champion Finn Bálor is still on the shelf with a shoulder injury he sustained at SummerSlam in August. By all accounts, his rehab is going well, and he is healthy enough to show up at indie events and whack TNA stars with foreign objects. There has been speculation he may be back in action as soon as the Roadblock pay-per-view in a couple of weeks, but it appears that would be a huge shock if it did happen.
In an appearance on Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Bálor revealed that there is a target return date of next year’s WrestleMania, although it could happen sooner if all goes well.
“Yeah, last week [the sling came off]. Like down here, I feel real good, but I’ve got to be real careful. The target’s WrestleMania. There’s talk it could be sooner, but really that’s the hard target. And that’s what I’m aiming for right now.”
Bálor also stated that he’s currently doing six hours of rehab a day in Alabama, so you know he’s going to try to get back sooner if it’s at all possible. Still, it’s nice to have a drop-dead expiration date on Bálor’s injury hiatus. And of course, there’s always a chance that this news is just a kayfabe smokescreen to throw us off. I, for one, would certainly welcome a nice little swerve if we get Finn back sooner than expected.
Until then, I guess just book your flights for Orlando and proceed as normal, because WrestleMania weekend, as always, will be a happening.
