NXT TakeOver: Chicago went off the air with one of the most soul-crushingly devastating betrayals in recent pro wrestling history. Tommaso Ciampa turned on his #DIY teammate Johnny Gargano, and in an instant, former NXT Tag Team Champions Do It Two Guys were kaput. If you somehow forgot about it, or just wanted to have your heart broken all over again, take a look.
Anyway, real-life best buds Ciampa and Gargano are donesville. Their ladder match at TakeOver came just two days after a serious injury scare for Ciampa, but he was able to perform as though nothing was amiss. However, either that initial scare or their match in Chicago led to a very real injury for Ciampa, and he is now looking at taking some extended time off to have surgery.
If you read the NXT taping spoilers from last week (very minor spoilers ahead), you know that this injury was addressed by Ciampa himself in a promo that will appear on Wednesday’s episode. PWInsider is reporting that Ciampa has suffered a torn ACL and will need surgery. No timeline or specifics are available at the moment, but surgery and recovery time for a torn ACL isn’t usually a quick turnaround.
That’s a rough blow to Ciampa’s momentum, but we wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will be back soon so we can lustily boo him once again.
