Samoa Joe Talked About How Brock Lesnar Doesn’t Like To Pre-Plan Matches

Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar recently headlined a pay-per-view, the name of which escapes me at the moment. The match was short, but wonderful, and was about as satisfying as a first-time Brock Lesnar matchup can be in the year of our Beast Incarnate 2017. If the trends that have been taking place on Raw as of late continue, Joe and Lesnar might just be stepping back into the ring together as part of a multi-man match at SummerSlam, and that might just be because Lesnar had a good old time throwing bombs with Joe.

We all know that Lesnar is a man of few pleasures and many dislikes. Among his dislikes: vegetables, Dean Ambrose wanting to do things, Randy Orton’s head, and pretty much anything that isn’t eating, sleeping, conquering, or repeating. (Or anything that doesn’t involve leaving his opponent in a pile of blood and urine and vomit.)

It appears we can add another item to that “dislike” list. According to Samoa Joe, Lesnar doesn’t really like to plan out matches too much ahead of time. This makes a lot of sense. Joe talked about what it was like to go up against Lesnar on 102.5 The Bone (home of the Bone Zone, probably), and talked about Brock’s lack of wanting to get into the specifics too much before getting into the ring. “Not a lot of people get into Brock Lesnar like I did. Brock is every bit as intimidating as you’d imagine he would be times two. No, I mean, he’s a shaved gorilla. It’s just he’s stronger than strong. I don’t even think he even realizes how strong he is. I mean, he [has] got great control, but he is The Beast. He’s a big dude.

“When you’re going in there and you’re going to get into it with Brock. Brock isn’t going to work on a lot of stuff; he’s going to want to go out there and he’s going to want to get down, so like Brock’s not a preplanned dude at all, man, so you’ve just got to go out there and do it. For some people it trips them out, but for me, I’m like, ‘if we’re going to scrap, we’re going to scrap.’”

Joe also talked about how wrestling Kurt Angle so many times in TNA was a great set of training wheels for eventually getting in the ring with the OTHER most accomplished amateur wrestler to ever be involved with WWE.

“Like, honestly, a lot of getting ready for Brock was realizing he’s basically a bigger Kurt Angle. But Kurt is… he’s crazy, man. We just had the documentary about him and everything I said is true. If Kurt Angle’s leg fell off, he’d hop twice as fast to make up for the loss of mobility, man. There’s no quit in him. It was kind of a nice primer to get ready for Brock.”

This is all good information to have. If you’re ever in a situation where you have to fight Brock Lesnar, just know that it’s going to be in an extremely uncontrolled environment. Aaaaaaand I’ve wet myself. Way to go.
