The WWE Royal Rumble match is one of the most fun and entertaining traditions in all of professional wrestling. But WITHIN the Royal Rumble match itself, there is an entire subset of wrestling traditions. There are the surprise returns, the wild eliminations, the final four, the Iron Man … and perhaps everyone’s favorite Royal Rumble tradition, the way in which Kofi Kingston will avoid elimination.
Kofi’s elimination avoidances are already legendary, of course, but if you need to take a few moments to familiarize yourself with them, or if you just need a wonderful appetizer for this year’s moment, please take a moment to relive Kofi avoiding elimination through the years:
This year’s Kingston elimination avoidance was no less spectacular than in years past. After Jinder Mahal tossed both of Kingston’s New Day compatriots Big E and Xavier Woods, he attempted to eliminate Kofi as well. But one of Kingston’s amazing Kyrie Irving Black History Month “Equality” shoes landed on the prone body of Woods, which meant only one of his feet hit the floor, and thus he was not eliminated.
And that’s when the New Day invoked the Power of Pancakes.
Sadly, after all that, Kingston was eliminated mere moments later by NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas. But this elimination avoidance was still one for the record books, and was memorable as all heck.
