The story quickly became that The Revival, the embattled tag team who redefined tag team wrestling for NXT back in 2016 and were quickly turned into an endless embarrassing joke on the main roster, had requested their release from WWE. It’s one of those news bits that appeals to a certain kind of fan — like me, let’s be honest — who hates watching his favorites get treated about as badly as a tag team can on show after show after show, and hopes that companies that barely exist as of now have some previously unseen power to sign them away and promote them using what they do best.
Sapp quickly clarified his tweet, and the news became that people at WWE were worried The Revival was leaving, which should’ve been news every Monday after Dawson and Wilder’s super depressing emasculation at Raw 25. Here’s the update:
Fightful.com learned today that several within WWE were fearful that Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder were finishing up with the company. I’m careful to make sure not to say they outright asked for their releases, as I wasn’t told explicitly that’s what happened. Instead, I was told “has reason to be very fearful that The Revival are done or finishing up with the company” after a situation unfolded at WWE Raw.
A release is anything but guaranteed, and our sources were quick to point out that everything is handled on a case-by-case basis.
Some places mention that this stems from an “incident” that happened on Monday’s Raw, which we hope was just Dawson and Wilder playing the last five Revival vs. Lucha House Party matches, preceded by a couple of those B-Team losses, accompanied by a bunch of emphatic gesturing. We’ll keep you updated on any concrete developments, and promise to type a bunch of follow-ups in all caps if the Revival ends up facing the Young Bucks at Double Or Nothing.
