One WWE Superstar’s Contract May End Right After WrestleMania

WWE

We’ve been talking about contracts more than usual lately, with the addition of All Elite Wrestling to the national scene raising a lot of questions about who’s going to be working where in 2019 and beyond. Now a rumor is circulating that may not turn out to mean much of anything, but certainly has some interesting implications.

According to Mike Johnson at PW Insider Elite, AJ Styles still hasn’t signed a new contract with WWE. Beyond that he didn’t claim any certainty about what the future holds, as is reflect in this transcript from Ringside News:

Last I heard AJ’s deal is up sometime in April. I have not heard that they have come to terms on a new contract. That doesn’t mean that they won’t. That doesn’t mean that they will either.

On the one hand, AJ is already 41, and has reportedly been negotiating with WWE for a reduced schedule. On the other hand, as a former Bullet Club member with ties to the Young Bucks, he would be a natural for All Elite Wrestling if he does decide to leave WWE, and they’d probably give him whatever kind of contract he wants. If nothing else, that implication ought to give him leverage to get WWE to agree to his demands. If it doesn’t, on the other hand, we may see the reunion of Y2AJ in AEW.
